As part 2 of the War of art project came around, it was time to branch out and explore new methods of creating concept art for my "Return of the living dead" video game. These methods include the usual Photoshop CC, with which I created 3 pieces. I've also gone old school and done 5 hand sketches that I have scanned after making them. As a more creative method I've used the open-source 3D modelling software called "Sculptris" to create 3D models, to then take a screenshot, which would give the 2 created pieces a natural 3D look (because they are 3 dimensional) and also saves me some time on shading.
Posted below is the concept art I've worked on. The digital concept art includes a 3D variation of an in-game zombie NPC, a 3D Molotov cocktail, 2 pieces of landscape drawings and a drawing of the main protagonist.
For the hand sketches I have drawn a depiction of the protagonist in combat, a landscape sketch, a Desert eagle gun and bullets on a table, an up-close sketch of the protagonist's head and finally a 9mm pistol in a man's hand.
It was an interesting experience creating pieces of concept art utilising different methods. I believe that its valuable to expand my options as an artist and to not be afraid of a pencil or a paintbrush. I'm hoping that my hand drawing experience will improve my digital art skills and vice versa. Overall I found it to be a horizon expanding section of the War of art project.

To discuss my choice of art styles with the landscape pieces drawn on Photoshop CC, you may notice that the mood is quite different to that of the other drawings. As the genre is Post-apocolyptic, I was aiming for a dark and intimidating look for the maps. When creating them on photoshop, I took inspiration from the cutscenes of Infamous 2. It too had a gritty theme and portrayed this well with thick outlines containing vibrant and sometimes unnatural colours. These 2 pieces were where another game artist inspired me to a large degree. The other pieces were not influenced very much by anybody else to be completely honest. I agree that taking influence from other artists may have given my work more interesting dynamics when it came to shading, colours and thus the feeling of the art, yet I am satisfied with the way they have turned out.
